In 1968 Larry Booher was 19 years old. He received a draft notice, became a PFC in the United States Army and was sent to Viet Nam. He was in Viet Nam only three months and 10 days when tragedy struck. A land mine claimed both of his legs.
Fast forward 33 years. Today Larry Booher is a father and grandfather, and works as a cabinet maker in La Habra.
"I became a Sunny Hills client about 10 years ago when I grew disheartened with the orthotics and prosthetics firm I was using. I thought the level of care I was receiving had become stagnant," Larry explains. "I'm difficult to fit due to scar tissue, nerve damage and skin grafts. The pain I was experiencing was severe and I believed there had to be a better option for me."
"When Larry first came to Sunny Hills, we knew that some significant improvements could be made in both of his prostheses," Randy McFarland, CPO says. "Patience during socket fitting and matching componentry to his needs have resulted in providing both comfortable and functional prostheses for Larry. The latest products and fabrication techniques were utilized for optimum fit and much improved ease of use."
Ease of use is important to Larry because his job is physically demanding -- bending, climbing a ladder and lifting and holding heavy cabinets. Sunny Hills took this into account when originally designing Larry's prostheses and when they adjust and modify them today.
"I'm very happy with the level of care I receive from Sunny Hills, from the office staff to all my prosthetists. They are nice, conscientious and I can say I have fun during my office visits."
"It's rewarding to have been able to help Larry do his job with more ease and more pain-free," Randy McFarland says. "That's our goal with every client we work with."
